After School Program in Abbotsford:

3D Print Your Favourite Pokémon or Character

3D Print Your Favourite Pokémon or Character is a 3D printing after-school program in Abbotsford where kids design and 3D print their own custom Pokémon, video game, or anime-inspired character using real 3D design software.

Does your child have a favourite Pokémon, character from a game, or anime figure they wish they could hold in their hands? Now they can. In this hands-on program, kids design their dream character from scratch — and follow every step of the journey as it transforms from an idea on a screen into something they can actually hold in their hands. No kits, no templates — just their imagination and the tools to make it real.

Throughout the program, participants will:

  • Design an original character or figure entirely from scratch using TinkerCAD, the same type of software used by real engineers and product designers
  • Learn core design principles — shape, proportion, symmetry, and structure — by applying them directly to something they actually care about
  • Troubleshoot and refine their designs across sessions, learning to problem-solve like a real maker
  • Take on fun themed mini-challenges, like recreating a signature character feature or designing a custom accessory
  • Learn simple finishing techniques to give their print a polished, professional look
  • Design, print, and take home a custom keychain and figurine of their very own creation

Common Q&A's

What are the benefits of the programs?

All of our young innovators have an opportunity to develop analytical and problem-solving skills that will help them excel in middle and high school.

Students have fun making new friends while designing and building their own games, toys, and robots.

Introducing kids to STEM subjects early will equip them with the skills they need to thrive later in life, as STEM occupations are projected to grow by almost 11% by 2031, over twice as fast as the growth for all occupations.

Who teaches the courses, and what are their credentials?

At Young Innovators Robotics Labs we have a team of motivated, enthusiastic instructors and mentors that are excited about STEAM!  All our instructors have hands-on experience in the STEM industry. They also complete criminal record checks, first aid training, and teacher training to effectively teach STEM subjects to children.

Why is the registration on a recreation centre website?

All our programs are vetted and delivered in collaboration with local recreation centres. When registering for our courses, you will be taken to the recreation centre’s website to complete the registration.

What type of curriculum do you use?

Our programs align with the Applied Design, Skills and Technologies Curriculum (ADST) certified by the B.C. government.

This curriculum encourages students to reflect on ‘Why?’ questions when making decisions, while promoting creativity and critical thinking skills.

Our curriculum also caters to multiple learning styles, including auditory, visual, and hands-on approaches.

Are there different levels to the programs?

No, the courses do not have to be taken in any particular order. This allows students to sample different topics they’re interested in more deeply.

Does my kid need any previous experience?

No previous experience is necessary.
